During her studies in Hamburg, Mareike Stöppler had always assumed she would embark on a career path in aircraft development there. But her professional life took a different turn as she entered the automotive industry instead and moved to Berlin. Since 2018, Mareike has been with HELLA Aglaia where she coordinates the development of control units for interior lighting as a project manager.
“I was always eager to know exactly how everything worked,” says Mareike, who has an apprenticeship and a diploma in electrical engineering under her belt. Her thirst for knowledge would be a key advantage: “Sometimes women in technical professions still have to earn their respect and must prove themselves more.” Mareike convinced with sound experience from working both in Germany and abroad, and eventually heard about HELLA Aglaia though former colleagues. She is a fan of the office building in general and particularly enjoys the open-minded environment: “The atmosphere is relaxed and everybody really knows each other.”
Mareike sees an enormous development potential in her current field of work: “The car has become an essential part of our everyday life. This will always fuel innovations.” And those inventions are no longer limited to just the performance or appearance of a vehicle – interior lighting plays an increasingly important role. At HELLA Aglaia, Mareike directs a development team at two locations. In her personal life, her heart continues to beat for two cities, too: “My husband and I are avid supporters of the St. Pauli soccer club and also travel to Hamburg to attend their matches.” The duo has a good system in place when it comes to taking care of their little daughter on a match day: “One is in charge during the first half, one during the second – this has already proven successful during the parental leave.”
