Before applying to HELLA Aglaia, Martin Karohl already did extensive research; it was going to be a company that focuses on people and has a young character. However, the resulting interview for a project leadership position in the lighting division actually exceeded his expectations: “My future colleagues won me over instantly; we simply were on the same wavelength.”
As of 2019, Martin is now in charge of interior lighting projects at HELLA Aglaia, such as in intelligent ambient lighting. He controls the time, quality and budget targets, coordinates the synchronization with other locations in the HELLA Group, and provides technical and specialized support to the software team in Berlin. As far as Martin is concerned, transparent communication is absolutely essential. After all, good teamwork generates motivation and appreciation within the team: “That’s where the interview was once again right in line with my own thinking. I want us to grow together as a team.”
What helps Martin grow professionally? “It’s the challenges that our projects pose. We’re pushing new technological trends forward. Ones that didn’t exist in this form before. Together we’re writing a new page with our concepts.”
As a bioinformaticist with a further degree in photonics, Martin had already helped develop complex projects during his studies, primarily in the medical sector. After working in corporate research for a German vehicle manufacturer, he dove into the automotive industry. It was the right decision for him: “You see the result of your work, right out there on the street. That constantly gives me new motivation.”
